The following is a testimonial from one of my clients:
"My work with Shonagh began about 4 months ago when I sought her out for help with my depression over the death of my wife. Prior to that, I wound my way through a few therapists, all of whom prescribed anti-depressants, which only deadened my senses and kept me in a kind of emotional holding zone. The result was 3 years of "going through the motions" with no sense of aliveness. I'm afraid I came to Shonagh out of desperation - she was a "last resort" for me. Well, life works in surprising ways.
Shonagh's "medicine" consists of an uncanny ability to go far beyond what she calls "the surface story" and call up the underlying causative layers. She possesses tremendous insight that has conveyed a sense of found wisdom for me. She is a spirit medium, which lends mystical and surprisingly profound aspects to our sessions. As a result of committed and consistent work with her I am off the anti-depressants. I have a newfound appreciation for the mystery of life AND death AND my own soul's mystery.
I feel as if I have awakened from a long sleep. I am spending dedicated time in nature, both hiking and just being still, and I have reentered relationship for the first time in years, with a clear sense of my own purpose and a mature appreciation for the temporal quality of life. This testimonial cannot come close to expressing how impressed I am with the level of integrity and wisdom this fine medicine woman possesses. I would not hesitate to recommend her, particularly for overcoming intense challenge."

My shamanic therapy work with clients is probing and revelatory and ultimately life-renovating. I am able to zero in on the origination point of the issue very quickly, which results in greater clarity and healing for my clients. In addition, I incorporate my extensive knowledge of nutrient-dense, traditional foods to address symptoms like depression, anxiety, poor sleep and other issues that are all too common in our modern world.
Just as the mystical wise woman once served her community with her gifts of wisdom and intuition, so too my work follows that model. In this way my clients achieve the "aha" far quicker than with conventional therapy, and with a much broader understanding of the underlying causes behind the issues. This results in greater access to happiness and harmony, which we are all seeking.
For those who are desiring a connection to the hidden worlds of the ancestors and other spirits, I offer a curriculum of sorts and my one-on-one retreats are a kind of condensed mystery school. My work is informed by the teaching spirits and ancestors I have connected with over the years. Nature herself has initiated me and I induct my students into the rich mystery of nature and their own intrinsic nature through my course offerings, private sessions and retreats.
In addition, I assist those who work with visionary plant/fungus medicine to integrate the experience. Psychotropic plants and fungi are ancient teachers and they are a profound mystery. To say we have mastery over them is pure hubris, they deserve our humble reverence and respect. I assist my clients to make sense of their journey using my understanding of the language of symbol and metaphor, which brings further illumination to their experience.
A teacher of mine once said, “The good shamans have the giggle.” I bring irreverent humor to my work, which is essential, especially when we are exploring heavy emotional territory. I treat my students and clients with kindness and compassion and hold them in a safe and nurturing space so they can open and grow with assurance. I absolutely love this work and I am ever grateful for the opportunity to inspire others to step into their power.
Psychedelic Mysteries of the Feminine: Creativity, Ecstasy, and Healing
This book is a compilation of writings by women and men in the field. I was asked by the editors to contribute a chapter and my offering focuses on the modern medicine woman. The following is an excerpt from the book's publisher:
"In this book, we discover the transformative powers of feminine consciousness and altered states as revealed by contributors both female and male, including revered scholars, visionary artists, anthropologists, modern shamans, witches, psychotherapists, and policy makers. The book begins with a deep look at the archetypal dimensions of the feminine principle and how entheogens give us open access to these ancient archetypes, including goddess consciousness and the dark feminine. The contributors examine the female roots of shamanism, including the role of women in the ancient rites of Dionysus, the Eleusinian Sacrament, and Norse witchcraft. They explore psychedelic and embodied paths to ecstasy, such as trance dance, holotropic breathwork, and the similarities of giving birth and taking mind-altering drugs. Looking at the healing potential of the feminine and altered states, they discuss the power of plant medicines, including ayahuasca, and the recasting of the medicine-woman archetype for the modern world. They explore the feminine in the creative process and discuss feminist psychedelic activism, sounding the call for more female voices in the psychedelic research community."
Honeybee Wisdom: A Modern Melissa Speaks is a spiraling feminine discourse that begins with the author’s treatise on her love for nature and its invisible forces. It then looks backward to the inspiration of the bees on the ancients, particularly the Mediterranean priestesshoods. This is contrasted with a candid look at the contributing factors that are causing the steep decline in honeybees, followed with a message of hope in the form of Biodynamic farming and gardening, along with Rudolf Steiner’s insightful esoteric understanding of the inner workings of the bees. The reader is then treated to an expansive exploration of the wondrous medicines found within the beehive, and instruction is provided for creating infusions, elixirs, oxymels, and other timeworn medicinals. The ancient medicine of bee venom is also featured along with the wisdom of physicians through history who understood and respected its efficacy as a potent healer of arthritis and other ills. The book completes with advice on the creation of a bee garden as sanctuary for both the pollinators and the good souls who love them.
Poetic Whispers from the Green Realms is a unique compilation of mystical poetry that reflects the ecstatic shamanic states experienced on the mushroom and beyond that have resulted in a profound connection to the muse of nature, which has elicited very beautiful and instructive poetry for students of the mystery. The first two chapters discuss the ancient connection between poetry and shamanism as well as the early European pagan's relationship with nature spirits. The book is available in e-book, audio and printed versions.
Love and Spirit Medicine chronicles my first year of shamanic mushroom journeys that formed a kind of training under the tutelage of nature herself. It is the only book written by a woman that delves deeply into the process of how one can be transformed through the reverent and dedicated use of the sacred mushroom. You can find Love and Spirit Medicine on Amazon.
